I recently had the privilege of connecting with Aimee Birdwell, of Birdwell Bakery, who’s warm, southern accent is as sweet as her custom baked goods! Busy wife and mom of two young children in Lafayette, TN, aims to delight her customers with every order. Aimee works full-time, cherishes family time, her faith and runs her baking business after the kids go to bed! As if that’s not enough, she also provides services to other bakers too! Read on to learn more about Aimee’s journey, her services and what she makes that has her family fighting over who gets the last one!
Heartbreak Turns INto Happiness
Aimee and her husband have been together since she was 18 years old and have built a beautiful family, but it wasn’t always easy. Aimee is very open and transparent about their fertility struggles to get and remain pregnant. After numerous heartbreaks, their beautiful daughter was a surprise almost four years ago. Followed by a son almost 2 years ago. It is these beautiful children who motivated Aimee to start baking. She knew she wanted to be able to say, “I made all their birthday cakes”, the sentimental mom shared with me.
Honesty, Transparency and Integrity
Aimee strives to run a business based on transparency, honesty and “leads with integrity”. She aims to please all of her customers with top-notch customer service and a personal touch. “Not everyone celebrates a 50th anniversary and I want that to be special,” Aimee shared. She takes the life events and celebrations of her customers very seriously and wants to make them perfect. This kind of customer service is not something found at a big box store.
Aimee is completely self-taught and loves baking a variety of creations! Which is why she offers cakes, cupcakes, pies, decorated cookies, drop cookies and more. It’s not often you can find a baker talented enough to perfect a variety of treats, but Aimee loves them all. She also enjoys using a variety of apps and software to electronically design her work before sharing with her customer to ensure she’s captured their vision.
She offers pre-sale goods around the big holidays and loves engaging with her VIP group of customers and followers. Once again, Aimee uses feedback from her customer base to tweak her menu and ensure she’s giving them what they want.
But it is her fried pies that even her family members fight over! I’ll admit, as a Minnesota girl, I’ve never heard of a fried pie, but I sure want one now. She described it as “a thin pastry with a chocolate filling, folded like a calzone and fried”. 😮 Although, she offers them with different kinds of fillings too, such as apple and peaches. She’s known for her fried pies and sells a great deal of them!
Birdwell Bakery, at Your Service
In addition to her bakery, Aimee also provides edible images and thermal-printed labels to other home bakers at very reasonable prices. Aimee has the technology at home and loves to be able to offer these services at far lower rates than average. She also uses edible images in her own creations as a way to still create custom work for customers at more reasonable rates. Again, she goes above and beyond to find a way to meet all her customer needs!
What Does The Future Hold?
As I’m sure you can imagine, finding enough hours in the day is Aimee’s biggest challenge! It’s important to her that she is present for precious family time while her kids are young. But ultimately, she would love to have a storefront bakery! In the meantime, she enjoys following up with customers after every order to hear how their event went. She feels this connection “concludes their service,” and she loves receiving their feedback. As she continues to build her business, she is hoping to build a collection of customer reviews so others can hear personal feedback.
Aimee wears many hats, but she is rocking each one! If you are near Lafayette, I highly recommend you connect with Aimee for your next celebration. If you’re a home baker near or far, Aimee can ship edible images and labels to meet your needs. And if you’re ever in her area, you better get your hands on a fried pie!
