I’m excited to be featuring Cherie Robinson, of Iced Out Cakes, near Atlanta, GA! Cherie has been known as “The Cake Artist” and also “The Celebrity Cake Artist” thanks to her amazing work and relationships she’s built. This talented artist has been delivering smiles in the form of sugar art for years and still has ambitious plans ahead!
Setting The Stage
Cherie’s interest started at a young age, specifically around cake decorating. Fascinated by what you could do with sugar, she’s been perfecting her craft ever since. Despite her love of decorating, it was always more of a side gig until about 6 years ago. For many years, Cherie worked in the music industry, specifically in artist management and event planning. In 2000, she was responsible for an event bringing together young artists and students. Artists would perform and then speak with students about challenges they were experiencing. It was at this event that Cherie gave rapper, T.I., the chance to perform at the young age of 16. Little did she know then, how T.I. would come back around later in her life.
Iced Out Cakes is Born
Fast forward to early 2016 and Cherie was at her lowest, experiencing a lot of personal hardships and seeking clarity. She prayed for this clarity and guidance to get back on her feet and felt peace knowing everything would work out.
It was soon after, in Feb 2016 that Cherie received a text asking if she wanted to create a cake for T.I.’s baby shower. She was shaking reading that text and was honored to take on this special event. Needless to say, she knew this cake had to be “red carpet worthy” and boy, did she deliver. To her surprise, her cake was displayed proudly and prominently at the big event. Not only was this the restart of a beautiful friendship between Cherie, T.I. and his family, but Cherie felt, “Obviously this is what God wants me to do.” And so, she launched her business full-time.
Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta
It was in Dec 2017 when Cherie got a call from VH1 asking if she would be willing to make a cake for the Love & Hip Hop Atlanta show. She was thrilled and delivered another extravagant cake! She was also commissioned to make a personal cake for Joseline Hernandez, cast member of the show. When Joseline shared the cake on social media it had over a million likes within a couple hours! Once again, Cherie was feeling so humbled and grateful for these special opportunities to share her artwork. Unfortunately, one month later, she was seriously injured in a car crash, forcing her to take a break from her business, while healing, for 18 months. But Cherie knew she was lucky to be alive.
picking Up Where She Left Off
Upon returning to business in mid-2019, Cherie’s business continued to gain momentum. She has a steady clientele creating cakes for local celebrities, politicians and sports figures. She knows that in this business, it’s all about building relationships. Cherie strives to get to know her customers well so she can create a cake that even they could not have envisioned. She’s also gotten used to the fact that when working with celebrities, there is very little notice. She commonly only has 24 hours or a few days to create these custom masterpieces! But Cherie is always happy to have the opportunities to share her work.
What Does The Future Hold?
Cherie recently filmed a special with the Food Network, which will air in October! She hopes to be able to do more work with the Food Network, so stay tuned! Cherie also hopes to visit Paisley Park, the home and studio of Prince, here in Minnesota, who she adores. Cherie turns 60 this summer and loves spending time with her grandbabies while also teaching them how to work in the kitchen.
While Cherie has garnered a lot of attention for her celebrity cakes, she loves all her clientele. Big or small, she loves making special creations for all events. And you should know that Cherie also loves cupcakes, decorated cookies and other baked art. It was a privilege getting to know Cherie and I’m excited to follow her journey moving forward. I hope you enjoy this gallery of some of Cherie’s work as Iced Out Cakes!
