Hey Besties! I’m so excited to be tackling a question I commonly receive from you! Today, I am breaking down the easiest way to make a beautiful sugar cookie bouquet! If you’ve been here before, I share the simplest and most economical ways to create stunning baked cookies. Regardless of whether you’re a hobby baker of biz owner, I spill all my tips on how you can recreate yours at home! A sugar cookie bouquet is perfect for any occasion, but with Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’ve had an influx in requests on this! So let’s do this, together!

Cutout Cookie Recipes

Alright, let’s start with our delicious cookie canvases! I used our top selling salted caramel cutout cookie recipe for this set, which is popular year-round. No chilling needed, as with all of my recipes, so they are super quick, simple and delicious! But you’re welcome to use your favorite recipe or choose another flavor from the collection HERE!

I always bake all of my cutout cookies on THESE perforated baking mats, which ensure even baking, zero cookie growth, and the pretty pattern on the back. I bake all my batches and clean at the end of the day – easy peasy!

Cookie Thickness

Normally I bake all of my cutout cookies to 1/4″ thickness, but when make a sugar cookie bouquet, thicker is better. I roll my cookies to 3/8″ for my bouquets and they work perfectly! Using a rolling pin like THIS, makes it super easy to change your thickness anytime for consistency results.

Cookie Bouquet Baking

Some cookiers bake their bouquet cookies with the sticks already inserted into the cookies. In my experience, I prefer to add the sticks when the cookies are fresh out of the oven. I can still bake a full try of cookies this way and the sticks adhere securely in the cookies. I’ve tried baking with the sticks already in, but could kind of smell the sticks, which turned me off.

Here are these beauties ready to go into the oven!

Sugar Cookie Bouquet Supplies

Sticks

I use THESE cookie sticks for my bouquets. These give me the height I want for my bouquet and the freedom to stagger my cookies at varying heights. I prefer cookie sticks over skewers since the mom in me just can’t handle giving a cookie pop to a kid knowing there is a sharp skewer inside.

Containers

Dollar Tree comes through for me time and time again with pails like THESE for my bouquets. They are the perfect size, a fabulous price and allow me to make bouquets for 6, 12 or even more cookies. And best of all, they are cute and perfectly stable when loaded with cookies!

Bouquet Foam

This is where bakers struggle with the best way to build bouquets. You want your bouquet to be stable, not tippy and allow for you to build a beautiful, secure bouquet. And if you’ve watched tutorials on making cookie bouquets before, it commonly involves measuring, carving and hot glueing flower foam. This Bestie doesn’t have time or energy for all that. 😆 I use THESE tapered foam pot inserts from Dollar Tree for my cookie bouquets. I use 2 in each container, no carving or glueing needed. Which then also allows the recipient to reuse the container for something else after enjoying their cookies.

They perfectly fit in the pails and make building my bouquets super quick and easy. And economical! $3.75 for my Dollar Tree supplies for each bouquet is hard to beat.

Tissue paper

I do use 2-3 sheets of tissue paper in creating my sugar cookie bouquets as well. Pick that up at the Dollar Tree at the same time and you’ve got enough for many bouquets.

That’s it! No other tools or glue needed. You’ll see how this all comes together in the demo video.

Time to Decorate your cookies!

Before we can build our bouquet, we need to decorate! If you already have a royal icing recipe you love, I love that for you! If you need a fabulous one, THIS explains how I make my royal icing every day. Simple to make and gives me amazing results and flavor consistently.

For this bouquet, I made cute lip cookies and a cute secret admirer card to top off the bouquet! For Valentine’s Day cookie bouquets, you can use hearts, flowers and many other designs! But bouquets can be made year-round for any holiday or occasion!

Assembling a sugar cookie bouquet

As previously stated, I insert my cookie sticks into my cookies fresh out of the oven. Pushing them almost all the way to the top. And if you can see your stick shape at all on the top of the cookie, use a spatula to just flatten them out again. Then let completely cool.

I decorate my cookie pops with the sticks in them, since they were inserted before the cookie cools. This way, the stick is secure inside the cookie. Even if I turn my cookie pops upside down, the cookies stay on the sticks.

While normally I heat seal all of my cookies, there isn’t a way to heat seal with a cookie stick in place. I use my favorite cookie bags upside down to individually wrap my cookies. I usually trim about 1.5″ off the length of the bag so they look perfect. And use ribbon or THESE twist tie bows to secure the bottom of the bag around the stick. As long as you tightly tie or twist tie your cookie bag, your cookies will remain fresh.

Some cookiers simply tape a cookie stick to the back of a sealed cookie, which is another option for display purposes. But I prefer to have a true cookie pop, an actual cookie on a stick.

Hi Laura, I use royal icing for all of my decorated cookies. Some cookiers add a little salt to their royal icing to cut the sweetness.

Not sure if your baking soda is still good? Add a teaspoon of baking soda to 1/2 cup hot water. If it bubbles, it's still good!
