Recipes
First things first! We gotta have a delicious canvas! This set was made with our undeniably delicious salted caramel cutout cookie recipe. No-chill, as always, no-spread, with a flavor that everyone loves. But of course, you’ve got options! You always have full access to our entire collection of fun flavored cutout cookie recipes HERE. The hardest part is picking your favorite. Fortunately, you can make them all so no need to pick just one.
When it comes to our design medium, royal icing, you can learn the exact recipe we use and the method we use to make our icing HERE. With royal icing, HOW you make it is equally as important as the ingredients you use. It’s not difficult, but you need to nail the method to get perfect results every time.
Bunco Cookie Designs
I wanted to go with kind of a fun, retro vibe for this set. I used various plaques and shapes from THIS cutter set. It seems I use at least one cutter from this set in virtually every set of cookies I make! In fact, some of my favorite cookies are made from basic shapes with creative designs.
The color palette doesn’t get much easier than this, right? The black and pink were both made with ChefMaster. Black Diamond and Deep Pink, respectively.
The theme was really around dice and fun fonts to add character. And to make the whole design process easier, I used royal icing transfers for one of the fonts. I LOVE the ease of making the royal icing transfers and then just adding them to the cookiers versus the pressure I sometimes feel when piping directly onto the cookie.
And because we’re besties, I created these royal icing transfer sheets for you too! This font is so versatile for all kinds of designs and I include the alphabet in two different sizes for you. You can download these printable transfer sheets below or on our royal icing transfer sheet page. And if royal icing transfers are new to you, THIS post breaks it all down for you! I promise, they make life so much easier for designing!
Techniques
If you are newer to cookie decorating, THIS post, our Flooding 101 will be really helpful for you. For this set, it all started with a great flood and letting it completely dry. Then I airbrushed on a couple simple backgrounds to add interest to some of the cookies. I then glued on the transfer letters, using a little bit or royal icing.
I also used THIS font which I always find myself coming back to for cookies! And then added fun dice elements using a piping consistency for these Bunco cookies.
If I’m being completely honest, this was one of those sets that I wasn’t really loving while I was in the process of making them. But I trusted the process and in the end, I LOVED how they came together!
