Hey Besties! I’m just giddy about today’s post! I’ve been wanting to make custom face cookies for a long time and I finally made it happen! And they turned out SO cute, were super easy to make and are delicious, of course! The funniest part is that these cookies are of my husband, and he has no idea. Despite walking by the cooling rack multiple times with his cookie face staring back at him, he never noticed! So, the real test is to see if he reads this week’s newsletter and notices his cookie face! 😆 But in all seriousness, these custom face cookies would be perfect for all kinds of occasions, so I couldn’t wait to share! Let’s dive in!

Recipes

We enjoy several flavors of stamped cookies around here that perfectly hold intricate cookie designs. The right recipe is critical to cookie stamping success and these recipes are tried-and-true and worked perfectly for these custom face cookies. For the batch pictured, I used our vanilla almond recipe, which I compare to a classic bakeshop flavor. It’s nostalgic and crazy good. You can find this recipe HERE. But you have other flavor options as well! Vanilla, chocolate, lemon, peanut butter and salted caramel are all excellent options.

The only change from our traditional stamped cookie recipes for these custom face cookies is the baking time, which is noted below.

How To Make Custom Face Cookies

I ordered this custom cookie cutter and stamp set from THIS shop, specifically THIS listing. As a part of the ordering process, I provided a photo of the face I wanted turned into a cookie. Below, you can see the 2-piece set that was created. I was super impressed!

Once you have your dough ready and chilled, roll out your dough to your desired thickness. I roll mine out to 1/4″. You will then use the cookie cutter to cut the face shape. On top of that, place the face stamp and press into the dough. You will then lift both pieces out of the dough and place the stamped cookie on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. I have not had any issues with the dough sticking, especially when it’s been chilled. If your dough is warm, you may want to flour your stamp to ensure it doesn’t stick or chill your dough. Here is what they looked like before going into the oven!

Baking Time

This is the one deviation from the recipe since these cookies are thinner than traditionally metal-stamped cookies, so they don’t require as much time to bake. I baked these custom face cookies at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. If you roll yours out thicker or if you prefer a crispy cookie, you’ll want to add more time.

Surprise!

And here is what they look like once baked! I just had to chuckle when I opened the oven and saw all my husband’s cookie faces staring back at me. And I’m always impressed with how well this recipe holds stamped designs, it’s perfect!

I chose to leave these plain and they are chewy and delicious as is. But you could brush with luster dust or sanding sugar if you wanted to jazz them up. Or I even thought dipping the back half of the cookie in chocolate might be a fun option. My husband loves cookies with chocolate-dipped backs.

Who Could You Cookie-fy?

Now let’s be real, unless you can figure out how to make these with a 3D printer, you’re not going to have a custom cookie face of everyone. But I do LOVE this custom cookie cutter set for immediate family members or for a special occasion. These would be perfect for retirement parties, birthdays or anytime you’re celebrating a specific person. Honestly, I’d love to have versions of my family with funny faces too. Is there anything better than surprising someone with custom face cookies?!

If you do have a bakery, you may have clients willing to pay for the custom cutter, as long as they give you enough lead time to get it ordered. The cookies themselves are very quick and easy to make. No decorating involved, which is a nice change of pace!

Custom Face Cookie Success!

Know what my family members are getting in their stocking this year? That’s right, a custom face cookie cutter for me to bake cookies of them! I hope this post has inspired you to make some awesome custom face cookies too! They are such an unexpected, fun and delicious treat!
