Real quick, before we get into our designs, I want to remind you that you have full and free access to all of our best recipes! For the sets I’m featuring today, I used our lemon cutout recipe and our vanilla recipe. But you can pick any flavor you want from the ever-growing collection! All of our cutout cookie recipes are no-chill and no-spread…because this mama doesn’t have the time for any of that business. 😉
And when it comes to royal icing, THIS is our go-to recipe we use every day! It’s easy to make, great to work with and gives us the perfect results we want every time.
Design #1
Up first, we have our funny/cute Mother’s Day cookie idea option! I have to admit, I’m in love with how this turned out and I’m so excited to gift to some special moms in my life! I used THIS Mom Life cookie cutter and LOVE how these cutters have the cutter name right on them! I’m a fan of this cutter shop for their cute designs and they are well-known for having the cutter names on them. No more guessing games!
For the cookie sticks, I used THIS cookie cutter set, which I use all the time for cookie sticks!
All colors for these Mother’s Day cookie ideas were achieved using ChefMaster gel coloring which never fails me. I order THIS set and make all the colors I need!
When it comes to decorating this mom cookie, I sketched out the design using an edible marker before starting any decorating. Then I worked in sections, placing the cookie in the dehydrator in between steps to lock in the perfect finish and speed up the process. I started with the sunglasses and sections of the bow and just continued outlining and flooding separate sections that weren’t neighboring until all were complete. I came back afterwards and added her brows and used marker for detail in her hair. Honestly, it was super cute without any hair detail and when I make these again, I’ll probably leave the hair plain! But to each their own!
For the cookie sticks, I used an ombre color palette simply flooding and letting them crust over. Then, using my projector and THIS font, I added the fun words. I know I’m not the only mom who has experienced this transition of names!
This sassy mom cookie is one of the largest cookies I’ve made in awhile and I adore how she turned out. If I needed to make several, I’d love to do a variety of skin tones, hair colors and accessory colors. This design would actually be super cute for a variety of themes!
Design #2
For our second Mother’s Day cookie idea, it’s for those moms who would appreciate something pretty and sentimental. These hydrangea cookies are beautiful and not nearly as hard as they appear! It’s actually a very simple technique and can be used for countless other pretty designs as well! I created a whole separate post on exactly how to make these, with video included, HERE. I’m planning to offer these for Mother’s Day too and I’m going to try them in a pinky-yellow variation!
I genuinely hope you enjoyed this post all about Mother’s Day cookie ideas and that it has inspired you! And if you’re missing your mama this year, I encourage you to bring some cookies to a nursing home where there are lots of mamas who would love a homemade treat. ❤ And lastly, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there! We see you and appreciate everything you do!!
