Hey Besties! I have to admit, this is my first time making golf cookies! This cute theme has been on my decorating bucket list for a long time, but the timing was never right. With a husband (and son) who love to golf and so many design ideas swirling in my brain, the time has come! Today I’m sharing some adorable golf cookies, perfect for any time of year, but including some Father’s Day designs as well! And as long as we’re at it, I’m including a sweet Father’s Day cookie card download to boot! So, you have lots of options for the golfers or customers in your life! You’re sure to find that hole-in-one idea here, let’s go!
Recipes
Before we can get to decorating, we need a delicious canvas first! And since I know dads LOVE brownies, these ridiculously delicious brownie cutout cookies were the obvious choice! THIS recipe requires no chilling, they roll out like a dream, and perfectly keep their shape. Not only are they easy and quick to make, but they are soft and chewy like a brownie. Trust me, these will be your new favorite chocolate cookies. That said, you’ve always got options here! If you want to stick with the tried-and-true vanilla sugar cookie, THIS is your answer. Or you’ve got more than a dozen other fun flavors HERE in our collection, just for you! Didn’t I say you’ve got options?! Knock yourself out!
For our royal icing, we used our go-to recipe that never fails! You can find it HERE and today, we added some marshmallow flavoring to pair beautifully with our chocolate cookies. Now, you should know that the regular vanilla royal icing is still amazing with these chocolate cookies. But just for funsies, sometimes we add marshmallow flavoring, using a little bit of THIS, for a great flavor!
- All the gooey flavor without the mess! Our Marshmallow flavor adds the yumminess of marshmallows to your cakes, cookies, and candies. It also makes a fun topping for cakes or cookies by adding it to vanilla frosting.
Designs and Cookie Cutters
Alright, I may have gone a little overboard with 7 different designs, but I just couldn’t stop! Honestly, there are a few more I held back on, so this is actually restrained. But it all started with THIS adorable cookie cutter set for golf cookies from one of my fave cutter shops!
You’ll see I decorated them as designed from that set, but then I added on a few cute designs using shapes I already had! First, can you really make golf cookies without a sweet shirt? I think not! I used THIS cutter for my golf shirts. I use this cutter a million times more than I ever thought I would when I bought it, and I love it.
- Much more than just a shirt, this T shirt / Jersey cookie cutter will cut out well-defined cookies
Next, I used THIS ever-so-versatile flip flop cookie cutter to make a perfect putting green! Another cutter I’ve used for many different sets, including jellybeans, swimming pools and now putting greens in addition to flip flops! 🤪
- Life’s a beach with the Flip Flop Cookie Cutter. Fun for a summer birthday, bbq, pool or beach party.
Lastly, my trusty plaque cutter that I practically sleep with. Somehow this baby makes its way into almost every set. It comes from THIS set which I highly recommend. You can never have enough of these versatile shapes that are great for adding phrases and other designs to round out a cookie set.
- This handsome variety pack of plaques, frames and tiles will keep you ready for any kind of event.
Decorating
All of these designs are simple and straightforward for decorators of all levels. It’s really about outlining and flooding each section and letting it crust before adding a neighboring section. And for the shirts and the golf balls, you’ll noticed I used the wet-on-wet technique to create these designs while all the icing was still wet.
For the putting green, I outlined and flooded the inner green and let that crust. Then returned by flooding the outer ring and immediately adding green sanding sugar. I use the light touch of a fan brush to dust off sugar anywhere I don’t want it to be. Be very careful doing this or wait until the inner area is pretty firm before applying any pressure to brush off the sanding sugar.
If you’ve been here before, you’ll know I rely heavily on my dehydrator to avoid craters, give a smooth sheen and finish and speed up my decorating process. There’s always a cookie ready for the next step, so no downtime! If you’d like to learn more about using a dehydrator successfully in our cookie decorating world, THIS post will tell you everything you need to know.
Cookie Card for Golf Cookies
While most of these designs are perfect for any golf-lover, Father’s Day does tend to be a big card-giving holiday! Which is why I’ve designed this cute golf-themed cookie card for you that compliments any of these designs!
You can download below, print on cardstock or take to your local printer. The cards are 4×6 in size and work perfectly with full-sized cookies! Here are some examples! Note that we always individually heat seal our cookies and then attach to the cookie cards with double-sided tape!
