Hey Besties! Nurse appreciation week is coming up, May 6-12, and this is one our family is definitely grateful for! As you may or may not know, our son was shockingly diagnosed with Leukemia in June of 2021. And while he is in remission (thank God), that doesn’t mean the end of treatment for this type of cancer. It’s a 2.5-year marathon and as you can imagine, it’s been a rollercoaster. There have been SO many amazing medical professionals that have supported him and our family during this time.
And when I reflect on some of the courageous and heroic work the medical community has done globally over the last 3 years, there really is no number of cookies that could ever do them justice. But we’re going to try! If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that nurses, doctors and all the other specialists love treats! I’m excited to share this fun set of nurse appreciation week cookies, made with love, so let’s jump in!
RECIPES
We stuck with our tried-and-true no-chill vanilla sugar cookie recipe for this set! While it’s fun to use one of the yummy flavor recipes, you can never go wrong with vanilla. I love that I can whip up this easy recipe and have them out of the oven, ready to decorate in under 30 minutes. Never one to disappoint, our go-to royal icing recipe is just as reliable and delicious! If you’re on the hunt for easy, fail-proof recipes, look no further.
Cutters & Colors
For this cookie set, we utilized three cutters; two of which you probably already have! A simple heart cutter and plaque cutter that I seem to be reaching for with almost every set these days! If you don’t already have a great plaque set, THIS is the set I recommend for shapes I use on repeat. And while I know most might not need a cancer ribbon cutter, THIS is the one we use. Surprisingly, we’ve used it for many different conditions and fundraisers.
For cookie colors, all the colors in this set were made with ChefMaster gel colors! I love their colors and always get great results at a great price!
Designs
Onto the really fun part – the designs! If you’ve been here before, you know we LOVE making beautifully impactful cookies that beginner and intermediate level cookiers can make. This set is no exception. Seriously, if you can flood a cookie, that’s the hardest part of this set. I’m excited to be using three different stencils from one of my favorite stencil shops to add all the personality to these cookies! I’ve recommended them in previous posts for their quality, variety and prices. And since I adore them so much, they are allowing me to share a promo code to save you some dough! You can use promo code: BBESTIE10 to save 10% on your entire purchase from Bake Art Stencils (not valid on gift cards, one use per customer).

Cookie Stenciling
Full disclosure: I LOVE using stencils. It’s the easiest way to add so much character to cookies without having to be a master decorator or spend endless decorating hours. Especially when you’re a new cookie decorator and want to add lettering but aren’t good with writing or have a projector yet?! We’ve all been there!
If you’re new to stenciling, I previously wrote a whole post about the basics of stenciling which you can find HERE. Today, I used my airbrush for the pattern stencils and then used royal icing to scrape on the “Thank You” lettering. I made a video to see just how easily these are decorated. You can find the decorating video HERE or you can click on the image below to be brought to the video!
This set of cookies is going directly to my son’s medical team while we’re there this week! It’s the least we can do to show them the love and appreciation we have.
