Well, it’s coming. As quickly as we all ushered in summer, back to school season is right around the corner! With many kids going back earlier and earlier, we need to get planning for back to school cookies! If you’re a regular here, you’ll know that I aim to create high-impact cookies that anyone can make! Today is no exception, it really does not get easier than this! And in today’s world of custom everything, both kids and parents will LOVE these cookies! Let’s jump in to this fun, creative design!
Custom Back To School Cookie Notes
I LOVE this design for so many reasons but mostly because kids, especially little kids, love getting notes in their lunchboxes and if it’s in the form of a cookie?! These are just so fun for kids of all ages! Whether you make them personalized for your own kids or offer custom personalization for customers, there are lots of options.
For this year, we are offering custom personalized cookies with the message of our customer’s choice, paired with a cookie to give a friend and a teacher. I’ll make a new post to feature the set, but I’m excited to spread the love!
Cookie Supplies
I used our favorite, no-fail, no-chill, no-spread vanilla sugar cookie recipe, that you can find HERE. Then, I used our go-to royal icing recipe, which never fails me and I love so much, which can be found HERE.
I baked rectangle cookies, which you can make as big or as small as you’d like, as long as your message fits. If you don’t already have a set of rectangle nesting cutters, I highly recommend them as you’ll use them over and over for all kinds of designs. THIS set is perfect!
Then I simply flooded them white and let them completely dry!
Next, I used blue and pink edible markers from THIS set, along with a ruler, to draw my notebook lines. You can make them college-ruled or wide-ruled depending on the message! 😂 How darling are these?!
Now this is where your creativity really comes in. You can simply freehand a custom message, or you can use a projector for fancier fonts. Maybe your freehand is fancy?! Mine’s not! You can also consider an inspiring message instead of offering personalized note cookies. Regardless, you have endless options, simply using black edible marker.
While these are fun for all ages, I almost think older kids might get a real kick out of them, especially if the message is right!
Another fun option is to sell the blank not cookie, paired with a mini edible marker, for others to write their own message. It can be tricky to find cost-effective mini edible markers, but a fun option! I recommend checking THIS site for mini markers which are sometimes a great price!
One last tip: dust the cookie with cornstarch (I use makeup brushes dedicated to my cookies) before bagging them. If you don’t, there is a change the edible marker could smudge/bleed on the bag, depending on humidity or weather. If you dust it with cornstarch and brush off, you’ll be good!
Seal these up and surprise a kiddo (or anyone, really) with a thoughtful message anytime!
