Hey Besties! I have a confession to make…I’m in LOVE with shirt cookies! 😂 I don’t know what it is about shirt cookies but I find them SO cute!! This week we had the opportunity to create some cute cookies for a customer who simply requested something “summery”. What’s more summery than Hawaiian shirt cookies?! Oh, and there are flip flops too! And as an added bonus, these are incredible beginner friendly! If you follow this blog, you’ll know I’m a big fan of high-impact cookies that are easy to make. Let’s dive right in!
Cookie Recipe
We used our Loveliest Lemon Sugar Cookie recipe for these to be consistent with a summery theme. I have to tell you, every time I make these lemon cookies, I wonder why I don’t offer these more regularly – they are SO good!!
I used my go-to vanilla royal icing recipe which has never let me down. Could you add lemon flavoring to the icing? Absolutely you could! But I love the lemon and vanilla combination.
Cookie Design
I can’t tell you how many different cookie designs I’ve made using THIS shirt cutter. I’ve published a couple other posts utilizing this cutter to give you some additional design ideas as well. Jersey cookies and the cutest grill shirts ever came from this cutter!
I’ve also frequently used THIS flip flop cutter which has doubled for pool cookies too. I love being resourceful with the cutters I do have, flipping them to make all new designs. It’s worth investing in cutters you can use frequently and then hand cutting shapes for the rare ones you need.
Hawaiian Cookie Decorating
Here is how we started! All ChefMaster colors!
And here is how we ended!
Besties, these are some of the EASIEST cookies to make! Make flood consistency icing in several colors (no more than 15 second icing). Flood your cookie, then using the wet-on-wet technique, add circles using another color, then use your scribe to drag inward through the circles to create this design. You can also add dots and use your scribe to pull through. As always with wet-on-wet, you will need to work rather quickly and give your cookie gently shake to smooth out. I then pop these into the dehydrator to set. Once crusted over, use medium consistency icing to pipe on the shirt and flip flop details. Then sit back, smile, and take some cute pics to share in our Facebook group to show off your work!
These were so fun and easy to make as we close out summer! I’m actually thinking we may offer these in Feb when we really NEED this sunshine boost in Minnesota!
