Hey Besties! I’m so excited to share these adorable esports gaming cookies that are sure to delight any video gamer in your life! In full transparency, my 15-year daughter made these cookies! She is the only female gamer on her high school esports team and they are headed to the state meet! They are currently undefeated and she thought it would be fun to bring these for her teammates. I think it’s important for those who are new to decorating cookies to know that she started decorating with royal icing less than a year ago. Her first decorated sugar cookies where orange cancer ribbons to support her brother’s fundraiser last summer. She improves with every single set and so can anyone!
Recipes and Notes on Puffy Icing
She used our go-to, no-chill, no-spread, sugar cookie recipe found HERE. And then used our favorite royal icing recipe, you can find HERE. There is something I do want to take a moment to address that I’ve been hearing a lot about lately – puffy icing! In order to achieve the puffy royal icing, you have to mix your icing long enough. We ALWAYS mix our royal icing for 5 minutes on medium-high speed and have amazing puff! If you mix your icing for less than 4 minutes, you haven’t even technically made royal icing. You need to fully whip it until it has soft peaks, then you will thin to your different desired consistencies. Go get your puff on, Bestie!
She used THIS gaming controller cookie cutter and then simple circles for the button cookies. She used all ChefMaster gel colors for her icing as well. Colors are Super Red, Lemon Yellow, Sky Blue, Leaf Green and a drop of Black diamond for the gray.
Decorating Technique
As far as technique for these designs, she simply flooded the controllers white and the buttons the various colors. She uses about a 15 second flood (same consistency for outlining and flooding). She then popped them into the dehydrator to speed up the drying process in order to continue decorating. Once crusted over, she piped on the different dots on the controller. She uses about a 25 second icing consistency for piping. Then she immediately popped them back into the dehydrator to avoid any cratering. Details like these ‘buttons’ are VERY prone to cratering, but with the dehydrator, she had ZERO cratering! If you want to learn more about preventing cratering, THIS post is super helpful!
For the button cookies, she used our projector to pipe on the letters. If you have not invested in a projector yet, let me tell you, it is a GAME CHANGER. We are able to do lettering and other details that we absolutely could not do without the projector.
After piping on the letters, she popped those babies back in the dehydrator to once again, avoid cratering. Success! Check out more photos of these adorable esports gaming cookies!
I hope this post featuring my daughter’s Esports gaming cookies provided some fun inspiration for you! It’s remarkable how much your skills have grown in less than a year. I encourage you to try something new or keep practicing as long as you are enjoying it! Happy Baking Besties!
